I can not connect avator box without dongle......need help

WHEN I CONNECTS ONLY BOX AND OPEN NEW VERSION SOFTWARE IT SAYS 'connect dongle and restarts software".and can not open avator box without dongle,is it neccessory to connect dongle before and then connects box.
