Samsung i897 IMEI Repair

I have a Samsung i897 (Captivate) that is stuck with imei 004999010640000 and I'm unable to repair with NSPRO. Its on rooted stock firmware 2.3.5 and the NSPRO fails at imei repair at the last step where it attempts to connect to modem. I've attempted to downgrade to 2.1, however whenever I flash the odin file (I've tried 3 different downloads, 2 with bootloader and 1 without) the phone bricks, and won't boot until I odin the 2.3.5 stock rom. Any idea?
